Starrcade 86, Part 1

Greensboro and Atlanta co-host the granddaddy of them all Starrcade! JCP rides the wave of its most successful summer and tragic fall into a showdown between Flair and the Russian Nightmare Nikita Koloff. But before we get to the main event matches we focus on the first 8 matches on the card including a Louisville Street Fight between Ron Garvin & Big Bubba and the feud between the Boogie Woogie Man and Paul Jones finally comes to a head. We discover some of the matches left off the original VHS release and feel the pain from all of the badly dubbed music.

Saturday Night's Main Event XII, October 3, 1987

It's an iconic night as we see the birth of the Mega Powers, as wrestling's biggest stars of the 80's join forces. No Jesse... no problem we get Bobby the Brain Heenan. Savage looks to regain his IC belt but Jimmy Hart's crew has other thoughts. Hogan defends his own belt against the Savage Samoan Sika & Mr Wonderful takes on the man mountain... King Kong Bundy. We have a laugh at the debut of the "Piledriver Video" and do some after the fact chatting about Sting's last match. If you were an 80's wrestling fan then this is a can't miss show!

It's the Fall of 1987 and the winds of change are upon the WWF. We focus on Randy Savage's journey to a top babyface before the handshake that changed the wrestling landscape. Some fun matchups include Davey Boy vs Hercules, Beefcake vs Rude for the first time and the Honky Tonk Man gets more than he bargained for when he faces a substitute for Jake. WWF August 28th, 1987 Paul Boesch Retirement Show

We're off to Houston for a unique WWF event, the Paul Boesch Retirement Show. We dig into the unique history of the territory. The evening includes a big Hogan title defense against the One Man Gang. Tito Santana teams up with Mil Mascaras to take on Demolition and Ted DiBiase and Jim Duggan tussle in a Mid South/UWF reunion. The commentary team is bizzare and leads us to discuss one of Jim Ross's funniest stories from his days as Leroy McGuirk's right hand man.

WWF May/June 1987

Before we can get to the October 1987 SNME card we have to take in the greatness of the summer of 1987. In the post WM III glow we see the intro of several new wrestlers. We follow the Dragon's short lived IC title run, catch a great match between Tito and Butch Reed, a rare syndicated TV match by Hogan and of course that fateful morning that we saw Steamboat defend against the Honky Tonk Man!

Saturday Night's Main Event XI, May 2nd, 1987 Part 3 - The Show

It's the big night and the campus of the Fighting Irish is the setting for a great SNME card. The main event is actually a dark match which we re-imagine at the end of the show but we are treated to a Jake vs Kamala match, a lumber jack match to end a feud, a best 2 out of 3 falls tag title match, the first televised title defence of the Dragon and a lot more. The WWF is riding the wave of momentum from WrestleMania III and we are there to cover it.

Saturday Night's Main Event XI, May 2nd, 1987 Part 2 - Ken Patera Returns

This episode features a "What If" segment on WrestleMania III matches and storylines, and dives deep into the return of the Olympic strong man Ken Patera. We look back to a couple of classic encounters with Andre and Hogan to help set the return of a very different character. All that and a story about a very expensive flight for Jerry Saggs. This show wraps up the set up and gets us to the big card next week.
